By far, the worst rust damage on the car was
in the rocker panels – a common problem. Photographs show that
the inner panels were badly damaged, as well as the leading edges
of the inner front fenders. It would have been cost-prohibitive
to remanufacture and install new inner panels. In the interest
of strength, the decision was made to fabricate new rocker panels
in a slightly heavier gauge of steel. The damaged metal was completely
cut away and the remaining metal was treated before welding the
new rocker panels. All inner fender panels were fabricated and
installed as originally done by the factory.
