On the lawn at The Quail Motorsports Gathering - 2008

When we picked up the MV Agusta from Michael Harper-Smith I noticed this interesting motorcycle sitting off in a dark corner of the barn (along with many, many other obscure Italian singles). Mondial was very successful in Grand Prix racing through the 50's and won several of the small bore championships with riders that included Mike Hailwood. Mondial's attention to detail and design have always appealed to me, and since these are relatively rare motorcycles, I bought this one as well. I particularly like the bulges in the cam cover that make you think it has double overhead cams – it doesn't. Although the displacement is 50cc too large to compete in the Motogiro vintage class, the bike is eligible for the "supersport" class. I did not originally intend on restoring the bike, but I have since decided that I may tackle the project. I will keep this page updated on progress.
